In Germany the nurse is paid as a nursing assistant until the profession is recognised.
From the start of the adaptation programme the assistants already earn a gross income of approx. €2,000.00 a month and can thereby secure their livelihood as needed.
The practical placement for the recognition measures takes place at Sana Kliniken Leipziger Land and in outpatient care settings. The relevant specialist areas, e.g. internal medicine, surgery, geriatrics or neurology, are set out in the individual deficit notice from the Kommunaler Sozialverband Sachsen (Municipal Social Association of Saxony). The practical activities during the adaptation course focus on planning, organising and delivering patient care, including nursing documentation. Knowledge of assisting with medical diagnosis, therapy or rehabilitation is taught. At the start of the practical placement, trainees become familiar with the clinic’s structures, ward routines, duty roster, organisation and documentation. Nursing tasks such as personal care, assistance with eating and drinking, prophylaxis, patient observation or hygiene measures are accompanied by, among others, qualified practical instructors who meet the requirements of § 2 Absatz 2 Satz 4 or Satz 6 of the Ausbildungs- und Prüfungsverordnung für die Berufe in der Krankenpflege (Training and Examination Ordinance for the Nursing Professions). In addition, there is close coordination and cooperation regarding the support of course participants by the teaching staff of the Medizinische Berufsfachschule (Medical Vocational School), the training centre and the practical placement wards.
