Costs of a visa
The costs of a visa for entry to Germany can vary depending on the type of visa and the nationality of the applicant. In general, however, the following fees apply:
1. Visa fees: Visa fees are due when the application is submitted and must be paid in advance. The fees vary by visa type and are updated regularly. Visa fees for a Schengen visa for adults currently amount to 80 euro. For children aged between 6 and 12 years, 40 euro is charged; children under 6 years are exempt from the visa fee. For national visas (e.g. for study or work) the fees can vary depending on the type of visa and lie between 50 and 110 euro.
2. Service fees: Some embassies and consulates charge additional service fees for processing the visa application. These fees can differ depending on the country and visa type.
3. Biometric data: When you apply for a visa you must provide biometric data (e.g. fingerprints and passport photos). Additional fees may be charged for capturing this data.
4. Travel insurance: To apply for a Schengen visa a travel insurance policy is usually required that covers the costs of medical treatment and hospital stays during the stay in Germany. The costs of such insurance vary depending on the provider and the length of stay.
