Getting involved in Germany
Would you like to get involved in environmental or social causes? Or would you like to meet people from your country of origin or your religion? In Germany you will find many opportunities.
It really depends on you which voluntary responsibility you choose, because the law gives everyone in Germany the right to freely choose which statutory association, which party or religious community they wish to join. In any case, an admission or membership fee may be charged for membership. You can ask the respective association for the details. Of course you can also find an association or club yourself.
One thing is certain: the added value arises quite naturally. For your responsibility means not only friendly commitment and help for your fellow human beings, but also personal development. You can foster your true abilities and your imagination, approach others, get to know local or international institutions or expand your language skills. Consequently: take part in everyday occasions and help shape your living circumstances by getting involved!
Engagement as a parent
Many schools and day-care centres in Germany depend on the responsibility of guardians. At parents’ evenings you regularly meet teachers and educational staff, but also other parents. You can also join a parents’ group. Ongoing exchange with the educators gives you the opportunity to shape your child’s everyday life in day care effectively. In addition you are informed about lessons and homework, you can use advisory notices, but also contribute your own thoughts. The teachers or other carers will tell you exactly what you can do.
Intercultural engagement
In practically all cities there are intercultural meeting places and migrant organisations. Here people of different origins, societies, religions, age groups and identities meet. Aside from friendly engagement, these associations as a rule offer a range of intercultural activities – e.g. social festivals, relaxation programmes, games, training courses and preparation for funding. The main focus is on social interaction and conscious cooperation. In numerous urban municipalities there is an office for multicultural/intercultural undertakings or for reconciliation, a mix of officials or a chamber of religions. There committed people work for good coexistence among the different societies and religions in Germany.
