Feeling at home in your new place
So that you feel comfortable in your flat and your surroundings, we have put together a few tips for you:
- Introducing yourself: It is always a good idea to introduce yourself to the neighbours and have a friendly conversation. That creates a pleasant atmosphere and a good relationship with one another.
- Kehrwoche (cleaning rota): In many rented buildings there is a Kehrwoche, in which each resident takes turns being responsible for cleaning the shared areas such as the stairwell, cellar and courtyard. It is important to stick to it and make your contribution on time.
- Pets: If you have pets, you should make sure that they do not cause noise or disturb other residents. You should also ensure that they do not cause damage in the building or in the garden.
- Waste separation: In many rented buildings there is waste separation. It is important to stick to it and sort the waste accordingly. In that way you contribute to cleanliness and to protecting the environment.
- Parking: If the rented building has a car park, you should make sure that you only park in your own space and do not block other residents’ spaces.
- Quiet hours: You should make sure that you observe the quiet hours and do not play loud music or make other noises that could disturb other residents.
- Communal rooms: In many rented buildings there are communal rooms such as a party room or a laundry room. You should make sure that you keep these rooms clean and follow the rules that apply to their use.
By sticking to these forms of behaviour you help make life in the rented building pleasant and harmonious. It is important to follow the rules and to show consideration for the needs and interests of other residents.
