Coordination with the Employer

The PSA must coordinate with the employer so that only agreed and accurate information about the conditions of the future post is presented and communicated

An example of cooperation: Sana Klinikum Borna

Sana Kliniken Leipziger Land GmbH and the Sana Kliniken Leipziger Land training centre have agreed a cooperation with our company CareLend. Together we intend to create a joint programme for the language and professional training and development of foreign qualified nurses holding qualifications in non-academic health professions obtained in their home country, in Saxony. The aim of this programme (“adaptation programme for foreign qualified nurses”) is to make good every shortfall the KSV Sachsen has identified.

Together with meineagentur24 and CareLend, Sana Klinikum draws up curricula for the adaptation programmes in line with the rules and directives of the state authority in Saxony. This adaptation programme for qualified nurses is organised and delivered at various Sana Group sites in Saxony. Borna has been designated the main site for the programme. There is every prospect of transferring the Borna project to further cities nationwide.

Starting work as an auxiliary in nursing, on the Sana Kliniken cooperation model (practical phase)

From the very start of the adaptation programme, auxiliaries receive a gross income of around €2,050 a month. The practical part of the recognition measures takes place at Sana Kliniken Leipziger Land and in outpatient care settings. The relevant specialist fields — internal medicine, surgery, geriatrics or neurology, for example — follow from the individual shortfall notice issued by the Kommunaler Sozialverband Sachsen. The practical work during the adaptation course concentrates on planning, organising and delivering patient care, including care documentation. Knowledge is imparted on assisting with medical diagnostics, therapy and rehabilitation. At the start of the practical phase, participants get to know the clinic's structures, ward routines, duty rosters, organisation and documentation. Nursing tasks such as personal hygiene, help with eating, prophylaxis, patient observation and hygiene measures are supervised by, among others, qualified practice instructors who meet the requirements of § 2 (2) sentence 4 or sentence 6 of the Training and Examination Regulations for the nursing professions. There is also close coordination and cooperation on supporting the course participants between the teaching staff of the medical vocational school, the training centre and the practical placement wards.

Content of the adaptation programme, on the Sana Kliniken cooperation model

The total number of hours in the adaptation programme at Sana Klinikum currently comes to around 640. It runs across twelve modules in all:

  • Recognising, recording and assessing care situations in people of all age groups
  • Selecting, carrying out and evaluating care measures
  • Providing expert support, advice and guidance on questions of health and care
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of rehabilitation concepts and integrating them into nursing practice
  • Orienting nursing practice around the individual
  • Orienting nursing practice around the findings of nursing science
  • Orienting nursing practice around quality criteria, the legal framework and economic and ecological principles
  • Assisting with medical diagnostics and therapy
  • Initiating life-saving emergency measures until the doctor arrives
  • Developing a professional self-image and learning to meet the demands of the profession
  • Influencing the development of the nursing profession in its social context
  • Working together in groups and teams

The curriculum is intended to help secure an appropriate standard of quality in the adaptation courses for foreign qualified nurses in Saxony. It defines the thematic framework, with emphasis placed according to the specific prior learning of the participants. At the same time the content is aligned with the legal and administrative requirements attaching to recognition procedures under the Nursing Act for qualified nurses from abroad. The task the curriculum carries is to shape the programme so that, building on the nursing expertise the participants already have, it can bring them to a level of knowledge and ability equivalent to German training in health and nursing care. It also matters that the teaching prepares participants for their practical placements, and that the experiences and problems of practice can in turn become subject matter for the teaching.

Final interview and grant of the licence to practise

The adaptation course, together with the final interview, serves to establish that applicants have the knowledge and abilities required to practise as a health and nursing care professional (the aim of the course). It is examined accordingly.
